About Heather

Creativity has been the thread running through my life for more than 35 years. Most people know me as an entrepreneur, business owner, marketer and communicator. Over the years I've built businesses, created brands, designed products, arranged flowers, written books and helped thousands of people bring their ideas to life. What many people don't know is that my ceramic journey actually began nearly twenty years ago.At a fun business event, I was invited to make a small clay sheep. I absolutely loved the experience. That little sheep sat proudly in a display cabinet for years, quietly reminding me how much joy I had found in creating it.Life and business carried on, as they do.Then, in 2025, I decided I wanted to have a go at making another sheep out of clay. That simple decision led me to BaseArt in Llanbradach (near Caerphilly in South Wales), a wonderful pottery workshop where I was welcomed into the world of clay, hand-building and ceramics. What started as curiosity quickly became a passion, and before long I found myself spending every moment of my spare time sculpting. The rest, as they say, is history.Today, Animar Ceramics is where my lifelong love of creativity meets my love of animals. From whimsical sheep and Highland cows to treasured pet commissions, every sculpture begins with a lump of clay and a desire to capture something far more important than appearance alone.Character and soul.Because the animals we love are never just animals. They each have a distinct personality, a spirit and a story of their own.My job is simply to bring a little of that story to life and capture it in clay.
